Vote on What Businesses/Amenities You Would Like on 45th St

Dear neighbors,
Friends of Hyde Park is holding it’s second vote. If you are a voting member of FoHP you will receive an email from Helios tomorrow (Friday April 10th) with a link and a secure password, and once the vote begins you will have 7 days to cast a vote securely from your own home. If you are not a voting member yet, don’t despair! Just get in touch with us through our website www.friendsofhydepark.com. All residents, business owners, and property owners in Hyde Park can vote.
We’ve had a lot of talk about commercial use along 45th street in the neighborhood recently so we thought it would be a good issue to bring up for a vote. We’ve had a pretty productive discussion about the language of the resolution in our forum for the past 30 days or so and have also given a lot of thought to feedback from our last vote (see and join the discussion here). Here’s the final language, we hope that you’ll consider participating:
I support the following types of uses on 45th St. between Red River and Guadalupe:
Small Local Restaurants (Examples: Vino Vino, Quacks, Julios)
a) I would support some additional types of these uses on this stretch of road, depending on the circumstances (such as requiring the preservation of the historic structure like Kerbey Lane Cafe or Avenue B Grocery, requiring parking concerns be addressed, or that it maintains the character of Hyde Park).
b) I do not support this type of use on this stretch of road, regardless of the circumstances.
Small Local Grocery Stores (Examples: Fresh Plus, Avenue B Grocery, Natural Grocers)
a) I would support some additional types of these uses on this stretch of road, depending on the circumstances (such as requiring the preservation of the historic structure like Kerbey Lane Cafe or Avenue B Grocery, requiring parking concerns be addressed, or that it maintains the character of Hyde Park).
b) I do not support this type of use on this stretch of road, regardless of the circumstances.
Local Neighborhood Small Businesses (Examples: Blue Moon Glassworks, 4003 Duval St Hair Salon, Fine Stitch at 4000 Avenue B)
a) I would support some additional types of these uses on this stretch of road, depending on the circumstances (such as requiring the preservation of the historic structure like Kerbey Lane Cafe or Avenue B Grocery, requiring parking concerns be addressed, or that it maintains the character of Hyde Park).
b) I do not support this type of use on this stretch of road, regardless of the circumstances.
Vertical Mixed Use (VMU – retail or restaurants on bottom floor with residential space above, has structured parking, sidewalks, and walkable streetscapes – Examples: 3665 S 1st St or 5117A N Lamar Blvd)
a) I would support some additional types of these uses on this stretch of road, depending on the circumstances (such as requiring the preservation of the historic structures, requiring parking concerns be addressed, or that it maintains the character of Hyde Park).
b) I do not support this type of use on this stretch of road, regardless of the circumstances.
