Mayor Adler and Council Members,

I live in Hyde Park. Please support allowing the new land development code to apply to our neighborhood. Hyde Park should not be exempt from the new land development code. Hyde Park residents want bolder, more progressive changes to be made, affordable housing to be available within our neighborhood, to allow more affordable missing middle housing options in the interior of the neighborhood, and to allow more walkable amenities and restaurants to be located near our neighborhood. This process is our best and maybe only opportunity to allow these types of neighborhood improvements.

Friends of Hyde Park believes maintaining two separate land development codes – one that would apply to the rest of the city and one that would apply to Hyde Park – is an unworkable and inequitable solution. No neighborhood should be exempt from new land development code, especially when it comes to affordable housing. All of Hyde Park should be zoned in a similar way and have the same opportunities as other central Austin neighborhoods.
